Tuesday's taste

Yep, the title is completely nonsensical. I just needed something, and it's really hard to come up with these titles!

School was pretty good today - I almost fell asleep again after my alarm went off, but managed to get out of bed, make myself some porridge and trudge to school, after exchanging a couple of e-mails with a few friends from back home.

In school I almost continued right where I'd let off - we had a spare and I did my Math stuff in almost-record time (30 minutes) and then ... well, chatted on facebook.
Spanish wasn't too bad, either - we did some dumb vocab games, but nothing too bad.

During lunch I saw the dance teacher whom I had talked to during my panic attack in Math some two weeks or so ago, and she wrote an e-mail to our librarians to check for a book she'd recommended me.

Math ... was ... kinda difficult.
I hate that graphing stuff, and I have arrived at a point where I am so tired that I keep messing up the easiest things!
At least I know where my problem lies, so I will probably talk to Mr Murphy about it tomorrow and get him to explain to me what effect exactly the different transformations have on a square-root function.

I have gotten myself exactly into the kind of trouble I was always scared of: I lost the train in class. Not badly, but I am really confused...
It should be clarifiable (that's not a word, I know, but do you understand what I mean?) easily...

Creative Writing was, as always, the absolute best.
We finally finished our headline poems - and you can definitely see why I didn't become a poet - but didn't write a Journal entry... sadly.

I had an idea yesterday, stemming from a conversation I'd had with a girl from my Math class where she'd pointed out that my grammar is probably better than most native speakers'. And I wondered why.

I ran my idea by my hostfather, but I though Mr Derksen might have an opinion, too, and also he might have the knowledge to agree or disagree with me - but when I explained to him, what I had in mind, he looked at me kinda dubiously and said things like "well, double spaced ten pages should be alright".
And I'm just like "WTF?! 10 Pages?! I don't want to clog my journal up like that!"
The thing was: we were talking about two completely different things.
I was talking about a normal journal entry, while he was thinking I was talking about the big project!

So, well, I started jotting things down for a compilation of my analytical feelings texts, and I think I might do that. A collection of me-centered pieces focused on my exchange year would probably be an easy thing to do.
I'd start with a timeline, laying out the bare framework and explaining what happened when, and then picking out things and elaborating on them.
It's gonna be a big project, but it's gotta be 20 to 30 pages, so that should work out just fine.
And if I realize it doesn't, I should be able to switch to my fantasy world.

After school, waiting for Andy to pick me up, I hung around Mr Derksen's room and talked to him about ... languages? I think that was it ... It's just so great to have somebody who listens attentively and gives you his thoughts - and also things he's seen in you - that I can hardly describe it.

For example, he warned us in class not to fall in love with our own words.
And I know that I can't write a short piece, I always make it so long, so I asked him whether I fall in love with my own words. He looked at me, shook his head and explained "No, it's different with you. You don't fall in love with your words, you love the sound of language and you get lost in the process. You fall in love with the thoughts, not the words."
Do you know what I mean?
I'm just so fascinated by the language and its intricacies and the way you can express things ... I don't think in pictures.
I know a lot of people say when they read, they have this movie running in their head.
I don't.
There is only a voice that reads everything I read out loud in my head (I wrote a piece on that in my journal), but if I want to have an image of what I'm reading, I actually have to sit down and concentrate really hard.

I have a bad visual imagination, on which I blame my inability to draw. I need a visual representation, which is probably one of the reasons I love fanfiction so much - you have the actors, so you don't have to make up your own images. If I have to do it, the faces are usually pretty blank, or based on somebody I know.

When I write, I don't - or rarely - write out what I see in front of my 'inner eye'. I write what I like to hear out loud, phrases that combine into a nice sound, but there are no pictures.

I write for the sake of getting my thoughts in order, for the sake of actually thinking, because I tend to get distracted in my own head, and for the sake of the melody the words form. I can't express it, I'm sorry. It's not really a melody, it's more of a flow, something so abstract that I can't put it into words.

And since I read for the sake of hearing the words, typos and grammar mistakes are killing me. Seriously, there is little more annoying to my mind.
(Okay, one thing might be noise. I am so tired and stressed out, that the slightest sound is making me want to crawl out of my own skin, especially bad is chewing, or people sniffing up their noses... I might have mentioned that yesterday?)

After school, Andy picked me up and we went to one of the dance studios around town, because I want to get back into the swing, but unfortunately it was closed...
I'll have to call it at one point.

The evening I spent hanging out in the kitchen and showing Tanya a couple of recipes I have found online that look delicious, telling Tanya about the Harlem Shake - do you know it? It's so funny, and even more awesome to experience such a meme live! - and thinking about my project for Creative Writing - instead of doing my homework.

So I'm kinda lagging behind in Math right now (although algebraically solving equations really isn't that hard) and we have a Math test on Thursday, as well as a vocab test in Spanish.

On Friday, a professor of poetry from the UBCO (University of British Columbia Okanagan) will come by our CW class, which I'm really looking forward to.

I wanted to watch the Blackhawks game, but it was on TV, so I spent the first two periods listening and the third watching upstairs with Andy.

The Hawks won again!
In a shootout, but a win nonetheless, which means they have now tied the league record for most games with at least one point (as soon as it goes to overtime, each team automatically gets a point and they're battling only for the second one) and have now one point in a third of all their games this season!
Yes, a third of the season is already over (16 games), and the Hawks are 13-0-3 (Wins - Losses - Overtime/Shootout losses, in the Hawks' case three shootout losses)... And I am so jealous - everybody over 18 in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin can take part in a lottery to win a road trip with the Hawks!
Aaaanyway, I'm headed to bed now - as I mentioned, I am really tired...

I might play another round of Temple Run - they released a new version and it's so awesome - but other than that I'm beat!

Good night!

Rattled and Shaken

My week and time in general have been rather great lately - so it was of course inevitable to have that crash rather spectacularly.

It started out with way too little sleep, although I'm not even complaining about that anymore (the only downside here is that I am really tired now but in desperate need of a skyping session :/), and then Creative Writing, which was great as always.
I have realized that I lose the ability to recognize sarcasm though when I'm tired... :D

Math was rather easy, so I probably made a whole bunch of silly mistakes. Who cares? Not me today. (I hope that stays that way)
I lent my notes to the German exchange student that has transferred into our Math class right today, and we left the class ridiculously early after I was finished with my test.

During lunch I talked to Mr W, and I will talk to Rourke Chartier (and trust me it's hard to believe that he is only one year and 20 days - exactly - older than me ...), so I compiled questions in collaboration with Mr M - probably too many to ask, but there's just so much interesting stuff!

Spanish was boring as ever, but we're finally doing our group presentations - and one of our members was absent, so we were unfortunately unable to hold our own. Such a misfortune! (Please do note the sarcasm.)

Entrepreneurship... well, we've got our marketing idea, although I am rather indifferent about it. I can't really tell you anything - our competition might steal our secrets! (Ha. Ha. There are no secrets.)

After school, Andy picked me up after I talked to Mr Smith, the librarian (and OMFG, HE HAS A LAB THAT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE DUSTIN!!!!!!!!!! Made me miss my poor doggy all that much more), and dropped me off at the gym Marina dragged me to (she offered and I didn't wanna cancel even after I changed hostfamily, and it's a pretty nice gym - and good for me :) I gained about ten to fifteen pound, so I desperately need to go and work out again!) and guess who I saw:

Yes, exactly. Marina.
I wasn't expecting her, to say the least. In all the three months I've been to the gym relatively regularly - especially before Christmas I went every day after school - I had never once seen her. So when I enter the change rooms with a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach and spy her sitting on the bench hunched over her shoes at the other end, let's just say I panicked. I didn't even really see her, only her silhouette, but that was enough for my heart beat to spike, the blood to start pounding in my carotid artery (in your neck) and my ears and for my body to react instantly by ducking into one of the cubicles for changing before she could see me and hiding out therein until I was sure the change rooms were deserted.
I might or might not have texted Andy totally rattled... (Spoiler Alert: I did)

Well, I plugged my headphones in, was unbelievably jumpy while changing and then did my best to keep my head down and ignore her in the gym.

She passed by me a couple of times while I was on the stationary bike, and I was insanely aware of her every move, so that was not a pleasant visit.

I talked to Andy about it, about how that reaction wasn't the best and I shouldn't let her over-power me so much even after three months, but well, that was exactly the reason why I wanted to change:
She induced panic in me and made me feel helpless, powerless and small.
And especially without any kind of warning I wasn't able to stand up to her.
I'm usually not at all afraid to speak my mind (although I have become way more self-conscious over the years, I can suppress these second thoughts pretty thoroughly), but in that moment I was caught completely off guard.
So now I know I can expect her, and maybe psyche myself up before hand - and I really should at least greet her nicely, because I don't want anybody to say that I am rude. (I'm usually not, just too absorbed in my head, so sorry).
And all that turmoil is making me kinda homesick - or at least makes me long for home (and yes, there is a difference :) )...

And then of course the Blackhawks went on to lose tonight's game (fortunately in a Shootout, so their Undefeated-in-Regulation-Streak continues) and the Oilers did the same (after having the lead! Urgh, that team!)

So yeah, although my day was rather good, I am a bit down now.
And tired...
So I'm waiting for my mom to skype, and then I'm going to bed.

G'night everybody!

Two Steps Forward One Step Back

At least that's what it feels like.
Every time I make progress, I also take at least one setback.

Today it was Maths. I was just sitting there, when suddenly waves of nausea began hitting me, so I excused myself from the class and sat in the hallway, but every time I just so much as thought about going back to the class, I got sick again. It's not as though it matters, because the stuff we're doing is pretty easy and I essentially only missed a working period, but it was pretty inconvenient.
I blame it on the emotional turmoil, sleep deprivation (an average of 4 hours a night is not enough) and the stress of Maths - Math is the subject I need to excel at, because I need it in Germany ...

Otherwise... I'm not working with the same group of students as for the Biz Day for the Dragon's Den Challenge, but with two girls who seem super nice, motivated and even have already an idea for what to do!
I think I at least am more compatible with them than with those other two.

We're doing a pretty dumb project in Spanish for Review, but maybe that's just me thinking that because I just had it last semester.

The best part of my day was (of course) Creative Writing.
A) the teacher and B) we did 'describing a scene' today, and our group of 3 had "Ocean and Cliff" and I got a "well done" from Mr D! (unfortunately, I don't think I can take him back with me, Lywe, I think he likes Canada a lot)

Creative Writing is such an informal yet informative class, I really love it.
And we're pretty different - one kid has bleached hair with a red fringe, then we have guy with a lot of piercings, black hair and a green strand of hair, some rather shy people, a few drama students, one guy from my Biology class, a hockey player (not for the Rockets, though) from my old English class, Aislinn (the girl who introduced me to Tim Hortons, Item of Canadian National Pride) from Debate (and she said I should just stop by once, a few people really missed me :o For me it felt like failure, although I know that the choice was the right one - especially with Maths I wouldn't have been able to achieve the level of writing I would have liked) and a couple of other students (four internationals, 3 Germans and a Norwegian, and they're clustered around the table behind me, occasionally talking in German, and that throws me every time).

And then there was the Pep Rally, which was the reason all of our classes were only 60-odd minutes long.
We're hosting the West Canada Championship (or whatever) in ... Basketball? so they tried to get us to cheer for the team, gathered everybody in the gym and introduced their cheerleading chants to us, made idiots out of themselves in funny games (seriously) and had the microphone amped up too loud...
Well, some uninterrupted reading time, and as I said, all our classes were shorter due to it!

My evening was spent - how else? - doing Maths, but it wasn't too hard. There's a quiz tomorrow, but I don't think it'll get too hard.
As long as I can remember that y=f(x) and g(x)=af(b(x-h))+k and (x, y) ---> (1/bx+h, ay+k) and although it might be g(x)=f(x+4), it isn't translated four units to the right but for units to the left, because it's x-h, so h is -4 in this case, and that even though it b might be 3 it's not a horizontal stretch by a factor of three but by a factor of 1/3, and if a is negative, the graph is reflected in the x-axis and if b is negative the graph is reflected in the y-axis, and that the inverse of a function doesn't have to be a function but is always a relation and is reflected in y=x and yeah... I think that's about it....
It'll be alright, I think, it won't even be multiple choice if I understood it correctly!

So, and I'm definitely headed to bed now, my eyes are drooping shut!

Love y'all,
Julia
(whose mind is buzzing with Maths, but in kinda a good way)

I Believe I Can Fly

I'm so happy and elated that I might just take off!
Today has been a great day - mostly!

Okay, so I'm operating on waaay too little sleep, first off all - I just don't seem to manage to go to bed early, and I'm doing 1.5 to 2 hours of Maths a day. It's not that it's hard, it's just that it's a lot and we have to draw a lot, which takes time.

But anyway, so I woke up, wonderfully sleep-deprived - just enough so that I'm not falling-asleep-standing tired, but hui-I-might-not-be-completely-filled-up-on-sleep tired. I love that feeling, I have to admit.
But I should sneak a couple of hours in at some point, because the longer this goes on, the crankier and more exhausted I get... But at the moment everything's still fine!

First lesson: Spanish. Spanish is still super boring, because we're only doing review stuff, and only a few students had Spanish 10 last semester, so the majority has forgotten almost everything. Seriously. -_-
Second lesson: Entrepreneurship. I hate people I can't rely on. For our project we had to sell things during lunch. And I had gotten cups and straws for $10, while my other two 'co-workers' promised to get lemonade powder so that we could sell lemonade.
The thing is, I wouldn't even have had to do it, because of the ESL meeting, but I said I'll do it anyway. I had come up with the idea, and I had chipped in with the cups and everything.
And they didn't provide their end of the deal.
They got it figured out, but I have been the idiot trying to save everybody's ass often enough, so I just said "find a solution, I'll figure out how to pay my San Francisco trip", because my name had disappeared from the schoolcashonline account that is used to make any kind of payment.
It was apparently just a technical inconvenience, so I finally paid up. (Great thing nr. 1)

I helped them set the table up, and then excused myself to go to ESL.
I figured out that I already knew the new ESL teacher - our old one is on maternity leave - because I talked to her in the ESL room during lunch and she's one of the chaperones for the San Francisco trip! (GTNr 2)
She's super nice and genuinely so, while our old ESL teacher kinda gave me the feeling she wasn't taking us seriously. I hate that (and she strongly favoured the Mexican students and those in her ESL English class).
Third block: Creative Writing, and I used the free writing time to ponder the question of the school (It's like silent reading just that we're writing, and I absolutely love it).
I didn't come to a conclusion, and felt totally lost, so I resolved to asking Mr D for a bit of time after school, because he's brilliant to throw ideas around with.
We did a funny exercise: We got clay (that plastic stuff we used in kindergarten to mould stuff [Knete]) and he closed the blinds and switched off the lights, so that we were sitting in pitch black darkness (the blinds are pretty decent ones, better than usual blinds here, like the Rollos at home), and then we had to mould - a duck!
Mine got a price for general horribleness and was put up as one of the three worst ducks in the whole class, and I was crying because I was laughing so hard as Mr D was making fun of my duck. I really thought it was hilarious - and doesn't that say a lot about my growth here, because a year or two ago I would have burst into tears because I was hurt he would say such a thing? No, but art isn't my strength when I can see and bereft of my most important sense, what do you expect?

Anyway, it was an exercise to show us how our other senses are sharpened when one sense is gone.
Pretty great lesson, imo, and at the end I was like
"Mr D, do you maybe have a few minutes after school, I have a question?"
He: "Sorry, no, I have a meeting after school..."
Me: "Oh, so ... I dunno, should I come by tomorrow during lunch? Or something?"
He: "I could write you a late notice; why don't you just tell me now?"

So I reported my dilemma with the school, explained why I didn't really like the GN where I went to (teachers pretty narrow-minded [at least some of them and especially compared to Canada], teachers making me feel dumb for wanting to know more, year mates talking behind my back about me being a suck-up and a show-off [Maybe I'll make a post about that, too, I thought what he said was pretty great and would be good for me to remember], me being bored, my fear of falling back into my pattern of stressing myself ["When you got stressed, your personality changed visibly" - "Seriously? I never noticed" - "You start obsessing over details, asking questions trying to regain control over the little details where you can have control. You still ask those same questions, but you're way more relaxed"]) and we bounced a few ideas back and forth.
We settled on one option I don't want to detail here, because it's not sure whether it'll work out, but those needing to know will find an e-mail in their inbox in the near future!
So I missed almost half of my Math class, but I was feeling so much better afterwards. I hadn't even realized how much it had been weighing me down!

Math ... was pretty unremarkable, because we actually have already done that stuff; the only problem I am facing there is that we had a totally different approach, but I need to comply by the Ministry standards here.

After school, since I had some time to kill like always, I went to inquire about my final grades before we get our report cards tomorrow (technically today).
Spanish: Final Exam - 98.1%, Final Mark - 100.7%. Best mark in her two classes, I am proud to say! (I love the advantage Latin has given me)
In Japanese I didn't actually get my grade, but my teacher told me I had done "very well" and had an A overall.
I'm looking forward to the report cards tomorrow!

I'm not actually finished with my homework, because there was the most-anticipated and strongest game in the NHL at the moment on, but it's mainly drawing some stuff, and I might use it to lull me to sleep.
It's tedious, repeating all that stuff over and over again, but what can you do?

We had tacos for dinner - absolutely delicious, let me tell you!

So... that was my day.
Below follows only a bit of hockey, because I need to get rid of all these feels!

So, the match-up tonight was Blackhawks vs San Jose Sharks.
The Blackhawks have 7 wins in 9 games, and only two Shootout losses, which don't count as real losses - shootouts (SO), as I detailed in my last post (If I'm not wrong) come after overtime (OT), and as soon as it is tied and has to go to overtime, both teams get one point, and the winning team gets a second one. So the Hawks have had a start of six wins in succession and have had at least one point in every single one of their games. (People also say, they're undefeated in regulation, meaning nobody has yet defeated them during the regular 60 minutes).
The Sharks have a similar record - they started out with 7 wins in 7 games, making just as the Hawks a new franchise record, but then they got a shootout loss and, yesterday, their first regulation loss - which made the Hawks the only team so far to be undefeated in regulation and also giving them the lead in the league.
San Jose was pretty close behind, though - only one point.

I have to admit that I had given up the game after five minutes of play when the Sharks were up 2-0. Coach Q of the Blackhawks called a time-out, gathered his team and gave his goalie a moment to calm down,  and after that, the Hawks were on fire.
Rookie Brandon Saad, who had been pretty good in all the past games after replacing a guy who twisted his knee in his first or second game on the top line with Jonathan Toews (Captain) and Marián Hossa (one of the top goal scorers and second in points, just behind Patrick Kane), finally got his long-awaited first goal, and that was kinda all it took for the Hawks to light it up.
The Sharks scored to make it 1-3 only 38 seconds after Saad's goal though, and I was ready to tear my hair out. 8 seconds later? 2-3. 42 seconds later? 3-3.
With the two best teams in the league who have both had great defensive play, having 6 goals in not even 13 minutes was kinda a miracle for the announcer who went nuts.

Thankfully, the scoring abated after that. Second period? Patrick Kane scores - which was pretty lucky.
They were playing four-on-four because one of the Hawks, Jamal Mayers, had gotten a legal hit but Duncan Keith (Defenseman) wasn't pleased about it and started a fight with the player who had hit Mayer, for which he got 19 (!!) penalty minutes. The perpetrator was thought to have delivered an illegal blow and was ejected from the game until they did video review.
So Kane had the puck, was skating towards the net, when the Sharks stole it from him - only to have the captain himself fish it out from between his feet in a move of total beauty, send it to Kane and see it dumped into the net. The goalie (fun fact: He was the goal tender in the Hawks' net when they won the Stanley Cup in 2010, and one of the opposing players was Patrick Sharp's best friend, before he got traded) never stood a chance.
And later in the third period, the Sharks pulled their goalie in order to get one more skater on the ice, and Kaner recorded an empty-netter (again with an assist from Toews), so the Hawks won it comfortably 5-3 after falling behind 0-2.
Now they are the league leaders without a regulation loss and three points on their next opponent.
I'm really, really happy, although that game was killing me - I was trying to do my Math homework, and I constantly got distracted because it was so nerve-wracking!

And now I seriously need to head to bed.

Love y'all,
Julia

Semester Two

I honestly can't believe that Semester two starts tomorrow already ... and that Dorothea is flying home. It just seems so surreal...

I still need to clean out my binder, get rid of all the old papers...

I'm glad to be back 'home' here :D
But the parcel I was talking about? It's not the one I was waiting for. It's not for me at all.
But then again, small parcels usually take longer than big ones, for some reason. And it might be caught in customs...

So, here have a gemstone from the LA Kings twitter:

The "box" they're talking about is a glass cage also know as the penalty box where a player has to spend two minutes if he violates the rules :D

And the Oilers just lost to the San Jose Sharks in a Shootout -_- That means the Sharks are league leaders now - I'm now just hoping for a Hawks win tomorrow and a Sharks loss in regulation in the next game - then the Hawks are league leaders again! (But it's not as though that really matters - as long as the Hawks stay on top of their conference, it's the Stanley Cup final when they have to concern themselves with the Sharks - if ever ... so I'm crossing my fingers. They'll manage, I hope!)
I had a most ugly experience on tumblr today:
People tag their hate against other teams, so I was looking at the Blackhawks tag and it was really ugly. The stuff some of the 'fans' are sprouting there is beyond nice and fair. Things like "I would crash this player's flight" are a no-go, seriously, especially after the plane of a Russian team crashed and most of the players (or even all of them?) died. Marián Hossa, Hawks forward, for example wears a 37 sown onto his glove to honor his friend who died.
So I was kindly (and I was really nice) asking a few of them to remove their hate or at least not tag it anymore, and see the response I got:

Yep, isn't that a lovely reply? (The 'I know it's a bit late' is in regards to the game in question having been played yesterday)
But what was I expecting with that url?
Another guy replied something along the lines of "Don't take yourself too seriously it was only a loss you're not that important", totally missing my point (I sent exactly the same message).

From now on I'm staying away from the team tags, because it's really ugly what's going on in there. Another girl, however, replied with
Thanks I appreciate the sweet way of asking: )
Had anyone else come at me this way I would have had no problem..
It’s not that I hate the hawks.. it’s that they are my teams biggest rival ever… so you know.. it causes so much emotion…
I can’t promise I won’t tag anything but I’ll try… might get heated tomorrow night but we will see!!
Good luck to your team.. although they don’t really need any luck! Haha

And I've been messaging back and forth with her.
And one more girl was complaining about "Bandwagon fans", so fans who only came to the sport after the Hawks won the Cup, so I asked her what those fans were, and we had a nice conversation (she's the first American born in a family from Bavaria :D)

So it wasn't all bad.

Good night!

Last day of holidays

Hi there!

I'm really freakishly tired, but also really freakishly happy, and yeah...
Okay, first things first: You might have noticed, but there is now a new tab at the very top, right next to my "About Me" (which is still in German if I'm not wrong. Sorry about that). It's called "My Feels" and clicking it will lead you to all my post tagged Feelings or Feels, and I will be posting about how I'm feeling (of course, what else), about how time flies and how I experience the passage of time. By clicking that tab, you can find all my feely posts in one place, and I might just go though all my older posts and see what I said there about how I feel. Yeah. Check back there to see how I am maturing (haha) over time.

So, my day... was kind of hazy.
It started out, believe it or not, a short while before I posted my last post about my feelings. Since I'm not always sure how much is too much in the online world, I had my parents check the entry on whether or not I could publish it (I didn't change anything, it was fully approved), and by the time I posted it, it must have been two thirty or so.
By that time I also was already chatting with a class-mate from one of my extra-curriculars back home, and we ended up writing on facebook until about half past four (seriously), and then I wanted to wait for my parents to Skype, because there were a few things I needed to get off my chest, things I can't discuss on my blog because that would be rude, and so I stayed up and wrote some more. I am so creative in the last time, I don't know what's happened! Maybe it is the sleep thing :D
So, okay, by the time I got my Mom on Skype, it was already a quarter to five. I was just about to go to bed, actually, because hello, quarter to five? but then she did appear, and we skyped for two hours. During that time, my dad appeared, helped me fix my laptop problem (it was firefox taking up too much Arbeitsspeicher, sorry, don't know the English word) and well...

At around six I cleared all my cookies and everything, resulting in me being logged out of all of my social media sites, so I log back into twitter, and I recently started following a bunch of hockey players (who's surprised? I bet nobody), and I was just glancing over the tweets, when one particular caught my eye. It said

@88PKane @tylerseguin92 [two Hockey players from the NHL for Biel; Kane is one of my absolute favourites] Had a great time on and off the ice with u guys in Biel.I wish u good luck on the upcoming year,we will be watching

And I was like: What the heck? I mean, Seguin's contract ran out shortly before Christmas, and he'd already returned to Boston, but Kane was signed with Biel until the lockout ended ... only possible solution: The lockout is over!

And sure enough, looking over my twitter dash, it quickly became apparent that yes, the NHL and NHLPA had indeed reached a tentative agreement sometime around 5 a.m. New York time, after 16 (!) hours of negotiations, and the season will start on the 15th if everything goes well or on the 19th if not.

And it was just so amazing, my parents had to listen to me squeal... And then I texted Andy at ten past six, waking him up (I hadn't known he had is phone on loud!), but he said he didn't mind - the lockout's over and TSN has been bringing news about that all day.
So I wrapped Skype, squealed a bit more, and then went to watch TSN.

Yep, and if you wonder where sleep was, it's here: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. It's why I'm tired, but just the fact that the lockout is over was enough to keep me going all day.

I was even semi-productive in regards to schoolwork, but right now instead of compiling the itinerary for the USA trip for my Spanish project, what am I doing?
Writing The-Lockout-Is-Over-Stories. Wow. Did I mention I was really creative? It's been ages since the words flowed like they did today, and I find myself really reluctant to stop right now...

Well, have a great first school day, guys,
Love you all,

Julia

Tired Ramblings

It's 3 a.m., I'm tired, my head aches, I can't breathe through my nose and my left ear feels weird. Why can't I sleep?

My room looks like a bomb detonated in it. But how can my room be tidy when my mind is utter chaos?

We have a Japanese test tomorrow, which I totally forgot about.
I don't want to. No, seriously, I'm just not feeling well.

Gah. Why do I always have these downs after having such a good time with the girls, or anybody?

Family Time

So, I didn't meet up with Dorothea today, but I did finish the Christmas presents for the girls - only to decide that it would be better as birthday presents, so duh.

And I have to make at least two more handcrafted things (you Germans know what I really like to make, and the Canadians I can't tell, sorry!), and I need to have them by Friday and I really don't know whether I'll manage that plus catch up with Japanese plus write a Journalism article about the Lockout (why did I volunteer for that again? No idea.) plus catch a decent amount of sleep. Well, scratch that last one, I know I won't be able to sleep.

Today I met Tanya's extended family - they're in town for a funeral, but it's a really nice crowd.
I'm just feeling right now like I had my social dose for the next months between Vancouver (88 Internationals in two buses, we didn't have much alone time - actually, none. I managed to grab two hours or so before sleeping when everybody else was already in bed, but that doesn't really count) and meeting the family today. And then again tomorrow.
I just ... need a bit time for myself? To work through everything I've learnt?
I'll hopefully be able to grab a few alone-hours on Tuesday, and I really hope this is over soon.

There is a reason why I spend time around people in carefully measured doses (and don't believe everything I'm saying the way I am saying it. I am totally melodramatic and able to cope, I just like to whine. I'm feeling only slightly overwhelmed, but I have my kindle, so it shouldn't prove to be too much of a problem.).

Well, that's it from me for today. I need to take another look at English; Spanish I'll learn during my break ;)

Girl without a home

I don't know...
Everybody: Please stay calm and read this post and I'm sure I can manage, it is no reason for me to abandon my ship here.

That said:
I'm feeling kinda homeless. I think it's a good thing - okay, let me explain what I mean.

I feel like I'm not German anymore. I mean, I haven't felt more German that here, not ever before, but I can't identify solely with the mentality from back home. I feel like back home I was small and dependent and childish and immature and narrow-minded, and I feel like I'm not anymore.
But I also don't feel Canadian, which would be the obvious other choice.
I don't feel like I fully belong here.

I always hoped that I would gain a second "home" with my exchange, but at the moment it feels like I lost my original one.

Okay, so now that I have got this out of my system, I can analyze it:
I guess, this is on the one hand a perfectly natural step to feel so unearthed, because it is a big change, and I've never done such a thing before and I'm honestly a bit surprised how well I've adapted. I thought I would have far more crippling homesickness than I've had so far.
The other thing it might be chalked up to is my emotional high.
I wasn't at school today (I was sick, stomach flu apparently, but at least I got off with a bit of nausea and nothing more, so I consider myself lucky), and now especially in the evening it was very care-free and funny. Okay, there might have been a bit of teasing and (at least what I thought was) good-natured banter, so it ended in tears (interspersed with laughter, though), but I was in a really good mood. And unfortunately, I crashed afterwards.

So, and that's it with my self psycho-analyzing. Enough of that stuff. Feel free to drop me a line, as long as it's nothing saying things like "Maybe you should really go home" or "You're just exaggerating", because that's not something I need to hear right now.

And as I still have to do my English essay (I have to hand it in on Wednesday, probably, but still), I'm signing out with this.

Sorry about the feels!

Julia

P.S.: Just in case anybody is interested: I also paid the $100 deposit for my San Francisco trip! Yay, I'm so looing forward to it, although it's still more than 150 days away! :(

I'm moving

Hi guys!

As I have already mentioned, I have a huge announcement to make:

I'm moving. Changing hostfamilies.

My Coordinator will pick me up at 4:05 PM tomorrow, and she will bring me to my new hostfamily.

It just didn't work out here.
I'm constantly feeling intimidated, and we have very few things in common.
After my panic attacks in school, I have talked extensively to a a family friend from Germany, who can understand my situation, my parents, my hostfather and my coordinator, and I have felt that the best decision for me would be to move. I just cannot hit "reset" and start over. That's not in my nature. I feel like I don't hesitate to give trust, but I'm having a hard time giving a refill of that trust well. If you lose it, I can't give you more. Or it takes me a very, very long time to give more trust.

Of course there is more to this matter, but that are not things I want to discuss on my blog.
You can find my whole thoughts on the situation and what's transpired in my Journal, which is already on its way to Germany - so some of you (like Lara, Lydia, Romy, Pizza and anybody else who's interested) will get in in January, as I cannot have it opened before Christmas. I wrote what I'm getting everyone for Christmas inside there!

Anyway, tomorrow my address will change, too.
Please don't send anything to my old address!
People I know (and trust) can contact me tomorrow, but I want to talk to my new hostparents first about giving their address away.

In less than twenty hours I'll be gone.
And I'm feeling more relaxed than in a long time. I feel like I suddenly can breath again.

The worst thing though was packing my things up. I don't know how I ever want to get that all back to Germany!
It's just so much - my suitcase, the big box my parents sent me, the boy my winter shoes came in, the box my hairdrier came in and three bags, as well as my backpack!
It's just so awfully much, you know?
But enough of that,
I hope you're all fine over there!

I got my English Score - 92.3%. Which is pretty good, in my opinion!
Depending on how he counts it - if he has one part names "Tests", like my Spanish class, that counts more than my essays - then it dents my grade. If he doesn't, I'd still have ... 98 or 99%. Which is perfectly acceptable.

I realized today that one of the boys in my Spanish class actually has longer hair than me! And he has a similar shaped face... Creepy. Honestly.

At the moment I'm so afraid that Romney will win the election - he is in the lead. 23 electoral votes or almost 2 million public votes. I'm so absolutely scared. I'm hoping that everybody in the US is being out there and voting - we can't have Mitt Romney climb into office. It'd be a disaster.
I think Joss Whedon, director of the Avengers, sums it up pretty well, what would happen:
Watch that video. It's absolutely brilliant. Really.

ETA 8:13 PM: Different source, newer statistics: Obama is in the lead! 47 electoral votes, which are important, although he is still about 2 Million popular votes behind Romney, which don't count, though.
But let's just say: Never before has a president of the US won the "throne" without winning the popular vote... Maybe Obama is the first?

ETA 8:33 PM: Obama has won. I can't describe how relieved I am. But he still lost the popular vote, as it seems right now!

ETA 8:47 PM: Obama is pulling up in regards to the popular vote, but he has won. Definitely.

Here is a graphic that shows tumblr tags - it'll be probably over, by the time you get there, but I want to have mentioned it.
And I'm honestly going to bed right now!

So okay, yesterday was a rather brilliant day, too.

I got on my biology test written yesterday 99%. And I didn't even prepare! Honestly, a fifth of the questions I didn't know, I guessed and/or went about in the "Ausschlussverfahren" (looking at which not to take). But well, I'm not complaining!
Then our Japanese test was postponed to today (not that I did anything for it, but well), and I have to admit: I cheated. But well, the teacher left the room, what do you expect?
(Admittance two: He was actually still in the room when I cheated)

And then Journalism... We all got a huge "well done" from Mrs Taylor, and of course she highlighted once again that I am only an ESL student...
And then we did impromptus (Stegreifreden). I didn't get to do mine, but we had topics like "Dogs are better cats than dogs", "Why Brownies are better than chips", "Women should join the miliatry" (made by a boy) and "everybody should go out there and vote" (done by our amazing captain Aislinn!).
And they were so funny! They only had 2 minutes to prepare a 2 minute speech, so it was really amazing what they did!

And we ended the lesson with a line debate:
The class is halved and then lined up on two sides of a hall, one side negative and one positive. And then we had the topic "Women are stronger than men". I was on the negative.

But we laughed so much as people of whom we knew that they had different opinions, spewed some bullshit (excuse the language please), especially on our side. Sarcasm was sometimes heavy in the air.
But it was so much fun, I can hardly describe it!

So okay, I'm sending all my love your way - and I'm gonna go to bed now soon, as I am really tired...

Sick

Long weekend and what do I do? Get sick, of course.
Probably a viral infection, says Marina, 'cause I'm not running a fever. But I'm feeling nauseous and my throat hurts and I'm tired, so I'm lying in bed, reading, and that's basically all I've been doing today, and now I'm also drinking watered down juice to keep hydrated.
Oh, and I finally answered my mail!

I actually wanted to meet up with Dorothea, but I fear I might be contagious, and I really don't want to get her sick - she's been through this already, I don't have to burden her with this again!

I just hope I'll be fine again by Monday - I'd miss so much, a Spanish quiz, our last Biology lesson before the next quiz, Debate and English, and I really don't want that!

My laptop had problems with the graphic board driver and crashed twice, and firefox also isn't at it's top...
I already run a virus scan, but it came back emptyhanded, so I have no idea...
I'll keep an eye on it, and if it doesn't get better, I'll ask Steven for help.

I have hardly any appetite these days, only to get hunger attacks. Today it came around elven, and it sucks. It really does. But now I'm quite content - I have never realized how often I eat out of boredom!

I have exactly 59 pages of my journal left, and Lara was teasing me with some kind of book during our skyping session - I have NO IDEA what it is!
But I really need to get a new journal! Because I can't not write!
I started out with single entries, but now I'm doing it in the same style as the "Plötzlich Prinzessin" Novels - I'm just writing Date and Time.

When I get home, I'll maybe type everything up - my handwriting is really messy in places, and I am slightly confusing at times, too, but hell, it's helped me so much to simply sit down and write everything down that's bothering me...

So yeah...

I need to go and get Postcards - I actually wanted to do that today, but well, I'm bedridden, so postcards are a bit hard to get!

It's been rather rainy all week, in case anyone is interested, and the sun sets at around half past five (I think. With all these clouds it's rather hard to tell)

The package my parents send me was shipped to the east coast first, which is why I still don't have it - it arrived near Toronto and is now most likely carried by truck.

I'm looking forward to getting it, although it must be quite big, according to my parents.

I have discovered sandwiches! There is nothing better!
Here are my favourites:

1. Tuna
2. Mayonnaise and Black Forest Ham
3. Peanutbutter
4. Chicken
5. Eggsalad

I'm addicted to Peanutbutter Toasts! It's actually all I've eaten today, and while I didn't like it the first time I tried it, it gets better the more often I have it.
It's nice because it's sweet on the one hand side (honey) and salty on the other, with a flavour of nuts, and it's just so. amazing.

We read a short story by Edgar Allan Poe and, hell, he's creepy. And strange. And a bit morbid. And a master of Irony. I mean, his character Fortunato is left to die in a crypt full of dead people, lured there by his love of wine (The Cask of the Amontillado) and ... well.

I'm taking the bus after Debate now, but thankfully, there is another boy, who also takes it! So I don't have to transfer on my own!

We also had an Earthquake drill - our teacher only read out the rules and guidelines, but we actually should have gotten under our tables to cover ourselves!
Earthquakes aren't that much of a danger here, but as far as I understood it, they're expecting one near Vancouver!

My headphones, which I bought here, don't work anymore. The right one doesn't give any sound. But luckily, I still have my Apple ones, and while they're rather uncomfortable, they're waaaaaaay better than none at all!

So, well that's it from me for now, I'm going back to reading!

Miss you all!

Julia

Jammerpost

So, back to business.

I have a few more ideas what this could be, so here a short list (I need to get that out of my system)

  1. Homesickness
  2. Culture Shock
  3. Illness (might have caught a cold)
  4. panic in the face of tests
But this stuff aside, this day was great!
I got two parcels, one from my parents with a lot of stuff like cartridges (Tintenpatronen), Post-its and some clothes, and one from Yuumei. I finally have my 1000 Words comic, and it's even signed (The first 500 orders were signed, and I didn't know whether mine was so soon!)

I did all my biology stuff and tomorrow we have a quiz, and I missed the last reviewing session because I didn't feel well, but I think I have most of that stuff down. I'll take another look at it tomorrow during lunch...

I had a nice chat with Vroni and I managed to sneak an hour of sleep into my afternoon...
What am I complaining about?
Let's see whether method no. 1 works: Forget about it.
If not then no. 2: Rationalize it down should do the trick ;)

Oh my god, I totally not up-to-date!
I didn't even know that Dirk Bach had died... It was a shock to learn of that; I found it over the fanfiktion.de forum, where a few people had written:
"Die Sache mit Dirk Bach schockt mich grade. Ich fand ihn immer so lustig!"
And I: Oh my god, what the heck are they talking about?!

But it is a shock; I'd never expected such a thing!
It shows me in the worst way possible how fast a live can end. Especially with popular persons or persons I respect my mind attaches an 'immortal' tag...

A bunch of things

So, okay, currently I'm at Dorothea's :D

So, I mentioned my biology test, right? I have 100% :D He apparently took out 3 questions afterwards (because they were answered so badly), so I have no mistakes (I think e took those three out which I really only could guess. I'm soooo lucky :P)

It really wasn't hard, though. He only wanted to know stuff we'd talked about in school, and a great deal of that we'd already done. For example Mitochondria and cytoplasm and Hydrogenbonds (Wasserstoffbrücken).

Then I caught bus number 8 from the Okanagan College to Orchard Park Mall and I have to say: going by bus is so easy here! You have to pay a Toonie ($2) and you can go for as long as you want within Kelowna and West-Kelowna. Even if you have to catch two buses: You simply get a transfer strip.

I met Dorothea at Starbucks and then we went to Aeropostals. I got a two pairs of Jeans and a poloshirt, but when I wanted to pay, it said: Declined.

Doro helped me out, but I phoned my hostdad, cause it's really bad when you're standing in the mall, wanting to go shopping and don't have any money. Well, he couldn't do anything either, so we went to a bank with a VISA sign, because the ATMs (Geldautomaten) in the mall didn't have one and you have to pay a huge fee at those ATMs. But at the bank the ATM said: Funds not available.

The answer to the question: My dad hat put the money on the internet banking account, but not onto the credit card! So I'll get my money on Monday, and I have to see whether I can get one of my hostparents to go shopping with me!

But then my phone also stopped working - funds depleted. No idea what I did, but all my $11 were gone!
Thankfully, my hostdad put new money onto my phone and booked me a new plan. It's called socialite 25 and I have unlimited texting and local calls on weekends!

After shopping, I went with Dorothea's to her home.

The house is so beautiful! And her hostfamily is sooooo nice!
It was really, really cool, and I enjoyed every minute of my sleepover here!

Doro, her hostsister Sabrina and I are gonna catch a bus at 12.50 to the mall, where we're gonna meet up with a few other Internationals and then we're gonna go through the mall and take a look at things ... I'm really looking forward to it, and maybe I can get a Sub out of it! (I just have enough money on me to do so)

I can't tell you how relaxing it was to just speak German again - although Doro and I conversed in a funny mixture of German and English with sentences like:

Es macht more Sinn.
Ich tu mich in Spanisch leichter, because ich Latein kann. (Ja, das hab ich tatsächlich so gesagt.)

Well, that's it for now!

So, have a nice rest weekend, I'm certainly enjoying mine, although I have to do a whole load of Homework tomorrow for Japanese (reading) and Spanish (writing and drawing a postcard and studying for the big exam on chapter one on Tuesday).

Best regards,
Julia

Biology

Well, did I mention that we wrote a Biology test yesterday?

It was a big one, 49 multiple choice questions, and a few short answer questions...

Well, I completed the test, gave it to him, and left.

Today, we got our grades.

He: "Well, Julia, I noticed that you didn't fill out any of the questions on the back side!"
I: "What? No... There was a backside?!"

Well, I'm allowed to resit the questions tomorrow at lunch, but what the heck?!
The page was used so badly, the layout so confusing, that I didn't even get the idea that there might be a back side!

And on Saturday I will probably go to the mall! :D

Anyway, I gotta do my Japanese homework, so Bye! :D

On Fire!

Just a quick update from my side, nothing to worry about (at least, not yet):

I mentioned we'd been to Osoyoos yesterday, right?
Well, one of the towns we drove through, Peachland, is on fire. Literally.
It's about 100 km away from here - and there's strong wind...

We are fine though.
We've been to see some salmon, and later shopping, I took a look at my Spanish stuff and I completed the review questions for my Biology class with my knowledge of last year's biology stuff... :)
I still knew quite a lot!

So, I hope you all have a pleasant morning, I'm gonna have dinner now!

Love you!
Julia

ETA: Okay, it seems as though the fire is nearer than I thought - it's 20 km away from Doro, so about 50 km from us! :o

Third day of school & weekend

On my second day, the classes were switched. I remembered that very well in the mornings, then talked to my yearbook teacher (it clashes with Debate, so I had to drop it) and then after lunch - I went to Biology. I should have been in English.

But since Mr. K. teaches Biology 12 in Period 3 AND 4, he didn't notice. And neither did I. I only noticed when I went into my English class and didn't recognize anyone!
Well, one girl then told me: "Du bist doch auch Deutsche, oder? Lass mal deinen Stundenplan sehen. Ich bin mir nämlich sicher, dass wir hier Media Arts 10 haben... Oh, klar, schau, du solltest jetzt in Bio sein!"
And I went rigid as realization dawned on me...

Well, I went to Mr K. to apologize, then back to Mr D to excuse my absence from my previous class, and well, I had a spare.
Mr D'd given me the homework and returned my paper from the lesson on the day before and I had a spare lesson.

My Work - the first graded thing in Canada! :D

So I went to see the counselor - again.
They recognized me, chatted with me while I was waiting and I dropped Yearbook and wanted to take up Journalism, but it doesn't show as an extracurricular curse, so Mr M. will have to sign me up by hand...

Yeah, that was it...
Well, except of course, have I mentioned I LOVE English lessons?
We have, every class, twenty minutes of silent reading time - if we aren't reading when he lets his gaze sweep around class, we get a zero! We get bad marks for not reading - I used to get bad marks for doing so! :D

Anyway, I severely dislike the girls in my Biology class. They're always writing on their phones, eating during the lesson, talking to each other and not paying attention. I'm sure they're of the kind to later complain about the teacher being unfair, although they were the ones who didn't pay attention!
I hate such people!

Today we were at Osoyoos, had a guided tour through one of the reservoirs - Photos will follow later.

Then we had a very nice lunch and we stopped by Tickleberrys, because I had mentioned I'd never had Fudge.
And I have to say: It's abso-bloodey-lutely FANTASTIC. It melts in your mouth and is sweet and very, very delicious.

Sooo: Photo time! (After the Shortcut! :D)

Love you all!
Julia

Second Day of school

So, I decided to split that stuff up - too much in one go! :D

First of all my timetable:

And it continues switching during the week, with the Monday schedule repeated on Wednesday and Friday, and the Tuesday schedule on Thursday.

My first real day of school was better by far.
We had Homeroom the first 30 mins, and ... hm. I can't say I like my homeroom.

But I jumped over my shadow that morning at the bus stop and talked to two girls, because one of them looked like she might be an International, too - she wasn't, but both of them were very, very nice, so they invited me to spend my lunch with them.

First lesson that morning was Spanish. The teacher introduced herself over a game - making us guess things about her, like her birth country (Portugal), her school, her Uni, her car, the number of children she has... She's very nice.

In Spanish is one other German boy, who lives here in my neighbourhood.

Japanese easily is the most crazy subject I have - Mr C. began his lesson my talking to us - in Japanese!
Of course, we didn't understand a single word.
Then we made standup games - Tatekudasai (I think) means stand up, Suatekudasai means please, sit down (the kudasai means please) - all without a word in English!

He proceeded to tell us - in English this time - that he had successfully proven that we have everything we need to learn a language! Because we had understood him, even though we didn't understand the language!

Well, I like Japanese.

Lunch was cool, for lack of a more appropriate word. The girls are nice (I have to remember to ask them whether I can use their names in my blog!) and Lunch was over too soon!

My spare lesson I used to talk to the counsellor - she's also so very nice! (it seems to me everybody is. Except for those in my homeroom and the girls in my Biology class!)

She looked Spanish up for me - it's full. So if nobody drops their Spanish class on Monday (that's the last time to make changes to the timetable), I can't take Spanish 11 (I have Introductory Spanish 11). I would like to, though, because I need it in Germany, and I fear I will forget almost everything in that whole semester, if I don't do it in school!

Anyway, I dropped Journalism, and if Spanish doesn't work out, I'll continue Japanese - which I would love to do, too!

In my spare lesson we put (after a lot of back and forth) Biology 12. Human Biology.
It was no use to go to that lesson anymore, because the bell rang the minute I left the counselor's office, so I simply continued on to English.

And I have to say: I abso-bloody-lutely LOVE it.
My teacher is soooo cool - he actually reminds me a bit of Captain America (I really hope he doesn't read this!). He's awesome!

Of course, I embarrassed myself immediately - I called, to get his attention, "Sir?" and he looks at me and starts laughing.
"What did you call me? Did you actually call me 'Sir'? Oh, you so have to call me that anytime, I love that!"
Well...
I didn't do it.

We went shopping that evening, and the prices here - thy honestly are crazy!
I mean, on the one hand side, $0.19 for 150 pages of lined paper, but $4 for 6 ink cartridges and $12 for post-its... o.O

I got everything I needed for around $8 - not very much, I think!

First day of school

So, sorry for the long wait  between my posts, but a) my week was pretty exciting, b) I wrote my German diary, c) my hostparents kept me so busy, d) I have school from 9 o'clock, which means leaving the house at ten past eight, to a quarter past three, which means coming home by 4 o'clock and e) I was just lazy.

But now the first week of school is over (and I'm awake at 8 o'clock on a weekend... I'm crazy...)

I had a really strange dream. I dreamt that I had flown home a week from now, because of something ... I don't know what, it could have been Lara's birthday... (I know that it has already passed...)

Well anyway, I have to admit that I still wasn't really homesick. I felt a bit lost or a bit nervous at times, but the homesickness is making itself (fortunately) scarce.

Okay, the first day was really cool, though very chaotic.
We Internationals were filtered out of all the new Grade 10s, and we got a short introduction.
Then name stickers were distributed for all the Grade 11s and 12s. My name sticker was on this list, but I was assured that it was simply a mistake.

Well, it wasn't. But more of that later.

We went into the gym (gymnasium, not to be confused with a Gymnasium in Germany; it's a place for sports) and did a few games to get accustomed to each other.

Then we were split into groups by our last names. My group didn't have my timetable, and it also wasn't to be found, so one of our Link Leaders, who were in charge of us, went with me in search of my timetable. We had it printed out, and the subjects ... well, they were a shock.

It looked like this:

Yearbook 11 - 6
Debate 11 - 16
Spanish 11 - 1
Japanese 11 - 2
English 11 - 4
ESL Cultural Studies - 20
Journalism 10 - 1
Psychology 11 - 2
Pre-Calculus 12 - 3
Creative Writing 11 - 4

(The 6, 16 and 20 mean that it's outside of the timetable)

Well, where were my Robotics and Drafting? Where was my Martial Arts? And where was my third lesson in the first semester? And why did I have Spanish and Journalism, although I had dropped the latter in favour of the former?

We then were sent to our homerooms (like our classes, just that you don't have lessons with them), and my name (make an educated guess) was ... not on the list!
So when school let out, I looked at the Grade 11 homerooms, just out of fun. And what was there in the homeroom for the R's? My name!

So okay, I was a Grade eleven. What to do now? The bus taking us to Hollywood Road was already there, and the introduction for the Grade 11s and 12s would begin any moment...

In the end, I ended up talking to my first homeroom teacher (who is still very, very nice to me) and she reassured me. Said I should go to Hollywood Road, she would tell my teacher where I was. It was no problem.

Hollywood Road had an English test - sorry, assessment - for us. It was very, very easy. My oral tester (for speaking and listening) actually said: "Well, we might as well skip this part..." We didn't.

So, I'm off watching Iron Man 2 now (because I love Tony Stark since I've seen the Avengers),
so, Good Night (or Good Morning, depending on your time zone)!

Flight Data

Soooo, now it's official!

I got my flight data today, and ... I'll be having a window seat!
But, unfortunately, Doro and I are seperated, so I guess I'll have to trade it (in the worst case :()
Well, 52A is a window seat, in any case, and she has a aisle seat, and I have a power point at my seat!
Oh god, I'm so much looking forward to taking off!

Best regards,
Julia

Auch wieder da!

Soo... nach Wochen der Funkstille bin ich auch mal wieder da!

Sorry guys, es war einfach ein bisschen stressig...

Was gibts neues von mir?

*Yaay!*

Und... Noch eine Woche Schule! Dann noch Praktikum und dann:

Ferien

Und dann noch etwas nicht-Austausch relatedes:

I am SHERlocked.

Mrs Hudson: Family is all we have, in the end, Mycroft Holmes.
Mycroft: Oh, Shut up Mrs Hudson!
Sherlock&John (entrüstet): MYCROFT!

Sherlock: Look at you lot. You're all so vacant. Is it nice not being me? It must be so relaxing!

Sherlock: Don't talk out loud, Anderson. You lower the IQ of the whole street.

Sherlock: Brilliant, Anderson.
Anderson: Really?
Sherlock: Yeah, Really. Brilliant impression of an idiot.

Sherlock: We're going out tonight.
John: Actually I've got a - date.
Sherlock: What?
John: It's where two people who like each other go out and have fun.
Sherlock: That's what I was suggesting.
John: No, it wasn't. At least I hope not.

Sherlock: I said, can you pass me the pen?
John: What? When?
Sherlock: About an hour ago.
John: I ... wasn't there an hour ago.

Sherlock: It's a six patch problem. I won't leave the house for anything under a seven. We agreed on that.
John: When?
Sherlock: Yesterday.
John: I was in Dublin yesterday, Sherlock.
Sherlock: It isn't my fault that you didn't listen.

John: So, do you always keep on talking when I'm away.
Sherlock. I don't know. How often are you away?

John: I was a soldier! I killed people!
Sherlock: You were a doctor.
John: I had BAD days!

So, yeah, I ain't dead!

As I already told you, I have my hostfam, and yesterday my mama sent off my visa.
The only thing I'm waiting for is my flight data. Doro already has hers!

I will be attending a rodeo with my hostfamily on Sept. 2!

I will be writing my Latinum (maybe) on Monday... Dear me, I'm afraid! I haven't really done all that much, but fortunately my brain functions a huge deal better when under pressure.

We got back our English exams the day before yesterday, and I'm proud to say that I have all the points!

Okay, so the last thing today is my newest obsession:

Sherlock!!

I absolutely LOVE the BBC show, and it's awesome!

I'm rather tired, so good night now!

Best regards,

Julia
